NOTES:
1. Remote BMS units REQUIRE an Expandable BMS unit to function. This BMS will not work without one.
2. Before ordering your BMS, here's a great and easy Orion Wiring Diagram Generator to help confirm what size BMS is required for your application. For sizing a remote unit, only include the number cells that the remote unit will be monitoring.
3. For the purposes of diagnostics and initial configuration of the unit, this CAN adapter is required.
4. 12-foot cell tap harness available upon request
5. Please see BMS return policy in our Terms and Conditions
6. The 72S cell configuration has a minimum order quantity of 5 units.

When used with an Expandable Orion BMS 2, the Remote Orion BMS 2 can protect anywhere from 24 to 180 cells in battery packs with max voltages of up to 800V. Using an Expandable BMS unit and up to two Remote BMS units, you can monitor packs with more than 180 cells in series. For smaller systems with 16 cells or fewer, consider using the Orion Jr. 2 BMS.
Why choose the Remote/Expandable option?
The use of Expandable and Remote Orion BMS 2 units greatly improves safety and simplifies installation in vehicles with multiple battery boxes. They remove the need for routing thin gauge, high voltage wires throughout the vehicle, and allow you to fully wire the cell taps outside of the vehicle if desired. When combined with Isolated Component Mounting Shelves you can install each BMS inside of a Modular Battery Box, and thus have no permanent high voltage connections leaving your battery boxes. Additionally, since each unit can accommodate 8 thermistors (16 in total), in going this route you could potentially avoid the additional cost of an Orion Thermistor Expansion Module.
The Remote BMS units have minimal wiring needs, and can be quickly integrated with an Expandable unit for initial install or to add on to an existing system.
The Orion implements an extensive list of features designed to protect the battery pack. These features include:
Cells are protected from over-voltage, under-voltage, over-current, over-temperature, and under-temperature based on the programmed minimum and maximum values in the battery profile.
Intelligent, efficient cell-by-cell balancing is provided to maximize the usable range of the battery. The BMS also monitors the health of both individual cells and the total pack and will trigger error trouble codes if either the pack or individual cells are in poor health.
The Orion BMS 2 is the second generation of an already popular and successful product, and boasts quite a few significant improvements, including a much lighter, smaller design, improved accuracy, additional inputs and hardware support for SAE J1772 charging protocol.
